Tata Nexon EV long-term review: 9,000 km with India's best-selling electric car

Nine months and 9,000 km later, here is what the 45 kWh Nexon EV really costs to run, what range you can count on, and where it still frustrates.
What works
- Very low running costs
- Quick and quiet
- Strong service network
What doesn't
- Real-world range well below claim
- Firm ride

Our long-term Nexon EV 45 has averaged 6.4 km per kWh in the city and 5.1 km/kWh on the highway, which works out to a real-world range of about 300 km rather than the claimed 465 km.

Running costs. Home charging at ₹8 per unit puts the running cost at roughly ₹1.4 per kilometre — about a fifth of what an equivalent petrol compact SUV costs.

Charging. A 50 kW DC charger takes it from 10 to 80 per cent in just under an hour. On highways, planning around charging still adds 30 to 45 minutes to a 400 km run.

Niggles. The infotainment has needed two software updates, and the ride is firm over broken surfaces.

Verdict
If you can charge at home and your daily run is under 150 km, the Nexon EV is the easiest electric car to live with in India today.
