Tata Nexon review: safety-first small SUV grows up

By Road Test Team29 Jul 20264.3

The Nexon built its reputation on crash safety. The current car adds the refinement it previously lacked.

What works

  • Strong crash safety record
  • Much improved refinement
  • Well equipped in higher trims

What doesn't

  • Limited rear under-thigh support
  • Base trims are sparsely equipped

Earlier Nexons were easy to recommend on safety and harder to recommend on polish. The current car narrows that gap considerably, with a better-damped ride, a quieter cabin and a dual-clutch automatic that behaves sensibly in traffic.\n\nEquipment is generous on higher trims, including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera. The infotainment system is responsive.\n\nRear seat under-thigh support remains modest for taller adults, and the entry trims are sparse. Choose carefully within the range.

Verdict

A genuinely competitive sub-four-metre SUV that no longer relies on its safety record alone.
