Comparison Reviews
BMW X5 vs Mercedes-Benz GLE: two takes on the luxury SUV
One prioritises control, the other prioritises calm. Both are excellent, and the right answer depends on your roads.
What works
- Both offer excellent long-distance comfort
- Strong technology on either
What doesn't
- Both are expensive once optioned
Put the X5 and the GLE on the same route and the difference in intent is immediate. The BMW resists roll, communicates surface changes and encourages a brisker pace. The Mercedes filters the same road into something softer and quieter.\n\nBoth cabins are excellent. The GLE leans towards lounge-like comfort and a richer materials palette; the X5 places more emphasis on driver-focused ergonomics.\n\nOn practicality they are closely matched, with similar boot volumes and second-row space. Choose the X5 for winding roads, the GLE for long, poorly surfaced journeys.
Verdict
Pick the X5 for dynamics and the GLE for ride comfort; there is no wrong choice here.
